US Secretary of Energy Dr Stephen Chu visits the Green Machines Exhibition Science Gallery in Dublin04 Jan 2011
Dr Chu spent some time looking at the Dimplex Zero Carbon Home display and met with Mr Martin Naughton CEO of the Glen Dimplex Group. Steven Chu is an accomplished physicist and a champion of renewable energy. At the time of his appointment as US Energy Secretary, he was a professor of physics and molecular and cellular biology at the University of California, Berkeley. Chu is known for his research at Bell Labs in the cooling and trapping of atoms with laser light, which won him a share of the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1997, with Claude Cohen-Tannoudji and William Daniel Phillips. He is a vocal advocate for more research into alternative energy and nuclear power, arguing that a shift away from fossil fuels is essential to combating climate change. |
On November 4th, 2010, United States Secretary of Energy and Nobel Laureate in Physics Dr Steven Chu visited Science Gallery and the Green Machines exhibition, before delivering a short lecture and a public interview on the topic of "The Future of Science, Society and the Planet.
