Heat Pumps from Dimplex cut hotel fuel bill by 40 Percent!
22 Nov 2011
When Colm Neville of the Riverside Park Hotel in Wexford decided it was time to reduce his fuel bills he called Thomas Vaughan from Geothermal Solar who had previously installed a heat pump at Colm’s home seven years before.
Thomas recommended the installation of three Dimplex 60kW Air Source Heat Pumps combined with the installation of 110 Dimplex SmartRad low temperature radiators. The system is designed to provide the complete heating and hot water demand for the 60 bedroom hotel and the leisure centre whilst also heating the 20m swimming pool.
The installation of the Dimplex SmartRads has significantly reduced the overall water content of the heating system due to the low water content (only 0.6 litre per radiator) compared to the 15 litres in the older radiators. The heating system now operates at a low temperature of 35ºC ensuring the maximum efficiency of the three Dimplex 60kW Heat Pumps which can deliver CoP’s of up to 4.7. Each of the radiators has its own individual thermostatic control which ensures a constant room temperature giving higher levels of comfort for the hotel users.
The system is expected to reduce fuel bills by over 40% and have less than a 5 year payback.
This project was supported by the SEAI reheat programme.
